If you received your goods, and they’re in not so good condition, do these four things immediately to file a claim:
Here’s why.
When damage is experienced on a material delivery, compensation or settlement is not derived from Star. We are acting as an agent on your behalf to arrange shipment and to assist in the settlement of any damage claim…much like a realtor does for a buyer and seller. Therefore, the more complete the documentation you provide, the better we will be able to represent your claim to the shipping company.
Be advised that when you sign the bill of lading at the time of delivery, you are agreeing to the fact that the shipment was delivered in good condition. Any concealed damage is later evaluated on what was damaged and how. Be sure to retain the damaged material until the settlement is complete. The carrier will often ask for the damaged material to be returned or may sell it to recover some portion of the settlement. It is advisable to accept the delivery despite any damage so Star can evaluate if this material can be salvaged or should be replaced.
