THE PROS AND CONS OF A ROLLING SHEET DOOR

Rolling Sheet Door Considerations

Imagine…the plans for your new building are coming along fantastically. You’re stoked. Everybody involved is grinning and you dare say—excited. And then you reach the moment in the process where you need to choose which commercial doors to use. You start researching your options and—BLAM—you suddenly feel overwhelmed. The options are nearly endless, but today—to help out just a little — we’ll explore one: the overhead rolling sheet door.

Overhead sheet doors are some of the best in the business for two, very simple reasons:

  • They’re cost-effective.
  • They’re tremendously reliable.

Other pros of overhead sheet doors are that they’re:

  • Heavy-duty
  • Long lasting
  • Easy to install
  • Stable
  • Durable
  • Low maintenance
  • Classic looking, and…
  • 100% recyclable

All these things add up very nicely when choosing a commercial door, but keep in mind, there are instances where rolling sheet doors may not be the best option. Some examples are:

  • The building requires a fire-rated door.
  • R-value is a major concern (sheet doors have a lower R-value than insulated sectional doors).
  • The door needs to operate during heavy wind (wind-rated sheet doors clamp shut during high wind events, which can be a major consideration for anyone in the emergency service industry).

In short, those are the basic pros and cons to consider in regard to the rolling sheet doors.

Obviously, there are finer details that will help you determine when using them makes sense, and when it doesn’t. So if you have deeper questions, don’t be shy. Reach out to the experts. There are many people you can contact, and DBCI sales manager Jim Smith is one of them. You can reach him at:
